Photo "above" is our 800 metric ton / 880
US ton crown during final machining on the boring and milling machine.
You are looking at the top view where you can see the large open cavity
will accept the "Apex Center Drive Gear Box". By placing the drive in
the center this pushes the crankshaft journals further out to the left
and right which is better to withstand off-center load conditions.
Back in the 1980's Sutherland sold the first Center Drive PMX-300 from
Aida Presses in Japan to a California customer. This led us to develop
and install many center drive press series over the last 30+ years.  The
440 ton center drive "below" has been running multi-shift for the last
17 years. The new "Apex Center Drive" has the new larger drive box
opening as shown above for ease of manufacturing, installation, ease of
press timing and service.

The slide body "below" demonstrates the wide spacing of the yellow
connecting rods that connect to the crankshafts in the APEX Crown.

This design is well suited for large die areas left to right and when
off-center load are expected. The slide is fabricated with special
attention to stiffness toward the center of slide, between connecting
rods.
The slide is guided with eight (8) point "taper wedge" full length
slide guides with high compression bronze replaceable wear strips. We
run very close tolerance to assure precision accuracy every stroke of
upper to lower die contact.

Photo (left) is a 440 ton, 120" x 60" during rigging installation. Our
frames are designed for ease of installation and alignment of bed to
uprights and uprights to crown. We use taper round dowel pins (photo
below) on each mating surface to remove the guess work for the rigging
companies. This photo also demonstrates the ultra wide suspension points
in the slide body as shown where the yellow connecting rods will come
up to crown and connect with the mating crankshaft journals.

The 660 ton, 144" x 60" below is equipped with two (2) front to back
rolling bolsters. This press was originally installed for a Tier One
automotive  stamper in the Southern states.

As you can see in photo (left) the crown of the 660 ton has been
prepared and is being lowered onto the uprights. In this particular
install the end user had plenty of ceiling height to go up and over tie
rods.
With core drilled tie rod holes, we can stack the press within a
few inches of its own height. This allows the tie rods to be lowered
into a round hole and then pulled back up after the crown has been
installed.
We provide all cad drawings for press and foundations to match the
need for our customers building requirements and floor to bolster
heights. At the same time, for customers with long feed lengths, a coil
loop pit foundation can be added.
