Pioneers of the Pacific Rim

At Sutherland, we take great pride in our longstanding partnerships with Pacific Rim manufacturers. Our founder, Jack Sutherland, was a key figure in removing the stigma of the "Made in Japan" label, and our legacy of quality in the decades since speaks for itself.

Every Sutherland Press is designed by our team in Ojai, CA, and built-to-order by our carefully vetted manufacturing partners in Taichung City, Taiwan & Ningbo, China. Both offer a strategic value due to proximity to shipping ports, and the world-class facilities for manufacturing the highest quality machines.

"Sutherland has high quality machines and outstanding service! We have been a Sutherland customer since 1999 with 8 machines from 66 to 200 tons. We run the machines 5 days a week, 8 hours a day for forming, punching and stamping operations."

KEITH KANE

MAINTENANCE MANAGER

"We purchased a Sutherland SHF-1000 hot forging press purchased in 2003. We use the press 6-7 months out of the year and can count on the reliability and consistency. The press is used to manufacturer near net shape forgings that are machined into precision preforms for flowformed products. The press is a critical piece of equipment in the process and relied on to support production. Sutherland has always provided professional timely service when support was needed. I would recommend the purchase of a second or larger forging press should we need to expand our capacity in the future."

A High Standard for Success

Every Sutherland Press is built to meet or exceed JIS 1st Class standards. JIS 1st Class represents the most exacting and demanding industrial manufacturing standard in the world. Machines that meet these strict guidelines must pass a rigorous inspection with hundreds of designated benchmarks for materials and operation.

Our adherence to JIS 1st Class represents our commitment to building the best metal forming presses in the world, and we are constantly seeking new ways to push the envelope in the development of ever higher standards of reliability.

"When we decided to build our new heavy stamping and assembly plant, we selected Sutherland as the supplier for our new presses. We installed a 500 ton, 3000mm x 1500mm, 200 ton 2000m x 1000mm and 3 unit 260 ton gap frame presses. The presses we on time and professionally installed and we rely on them every day."

Commitment to Leading Innovation

Our team at Sutherland is never content to sit still, and we all share a passion for breaking new ground in the metal forming world. We believe in aggressively pursuing new technologies that have the potential to carry manufacturing into the next century and beyond.

Our 70 years of experience have afforded us a wealth of creative capital that we have invested in a forward-thinking strategy. Rather than chasing fads or waiting for competitors to make the first move, we pursue research and development initiatives that fit into a comprehensive long-term view of the industry landscape. We are driven by a vision of a smarter, more connected, more people-centric approach to metal forming, and every press we design and ship carries us one step closer to this goal.
